To accomplish this, ÖBB works on the four-track expansion and enhancement of the southern link from Meidling to Mödling. The development will increase the convenience and usability of this connection. The four-track expansion will enable the S80 to run every 15 minutes between Vienna Hütteldorf and Vienna Aspern North. The plans for the northern section of Gänserndorf - Bernhardsthal will get submitted for an environmental impact assessment (EIA).
It will make traveling by train even more sustainable more convenient, and easier. 2022 is the year of consequential investment projects that include the existing and future railways in Burgenland. These projects will continue to ensure better connections to Burgenland. One of the several projects involves electrification of the Styrian Eastern Railway (Jennersdorf - Graz) and the Mattersburger Bahn (Wiener Neustadt - Loipersbach-Schattendorf). Several maintenance operations will get launched during 2022 on the S-Bahn 'Mainline'. The mainline is located between Vienna Meidling and Vienna Floridsdorf. The maintenance services will ensure high-quality services on the high-speed rail traffic in Vienna.
Andreas Matthä, CEO of ÖBB-Holding: “A high-performance and climate-friendly rail service is the backbone of attractive public transport and a strong business location. We continue to invest in modern routes, train stations, and terminals and thus remain a reliable partner for sustainable mobility and goods transport throughout the eastern region. "
