photo: Assystem press materials/Assystem is going to handle the Ispartakule-Çerkezköy high-speed railway project in Turkey. The investment is worth billions of euros.
The General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM) of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey signed an agreement with Assystem to manage the development of the newly built high-speed railway line which connects Ispartakule and Çerkezköy. The construction of the Ispartakule - Çerkezköy railway section gets financed by the EBRD with a loan of EUR 150 million and the AIIB, which has approved financing of EUR 300 million.
Upon completion, the capacity of the line will increase four times. It is gets estimated that freight will increase from 1.53 million tonnes to 9.6 million tonnes per year, reaching 3.4 million passengers out of the current 600,000 passengers.
The Halkali-Kapikule railway line gets implemented in two main phases. The first includes the Çerkezköy-Kapikule section. In contrast, the second phase consists of two stages comprising the Halkali-Ispartakule and Ispartakule-Çerkezköy sections.
Following the fifty-one-month agreement, Assystem will supervise the deliverance of the project and will ensure a wide specter of technical maintenance for AYGM’s project implementation unit (PIU).
The entire € 1 billion projects, for which the European Union has provided a grant of € 275 million, involves the construction of a 153 km long line, two tunnels, and 16 bridges. The new double-track connection will reduce travel times from the current 8 hours to 3.5 hours and connect Edirne, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ to the high-speed rail network.
