Alstom is supplying the static ground charging system (SRS) for the Tzen 4 bus, the first double-articulated, ground-recharged 100% electric bus, 100% financed by Île-de-France Mobilités.
This bus will eventually equip the Tzen 4 line between Viry-Châtillon and Corbeil-Essonnes RER station, as well as the new Tzen 5 bus line between the 13th arrondissement of Paris and Choisy-le-Roi.
This innovative and sustainable transport solution from the Van Hool – Kiepe Electric – Alstom consortium is made up of 24-metre-long, bi-articulated Van Hool electric buses powered by Kiepe Electric’s high-power, fast-charging battery systems that Alstom’s SRS system will charge.

“For more than 20 years now, Alstom has been developing and deploying catenary-free static and dynamic ground charging solutions (APS for trams and SRS for trams and electric buses). These solutions are used in a dozen cities around the world. Trams equipped with APS have already covered more than 70 million kilometers. Today, I am delighted with this world première: the first circulation of the Tzen 4 bus, 100% electric, bi-articulated, and recharged on the ground thanks to our proven and innovative SRS system,” said Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, President of Alstom France.
An innovative solution
Alstom’s SRS solution for electric buses offers numerous advantages to cities and bus operators alike. SRS is a safe, ground-contact static charging system that recharges onboard equipment automatically, at very high power, and in just a few minutes. Charging can be conducted either on a bus line during operation or in a depot when the vehicle is not in service.

Thanks to its positioning on the ground, Alstom’s SRS solution does not require overhead infrastructure and blends naturally into the urban landscape. SRS is a highly reliable and modular system designed to be interoperable and compatible with all types of electric buses. This means it can be deployed across multiple fleets, regardless of the manufacturer or variations in battery technology.
A future-proof technology
Alstom’s SRS solution is a technology of the future. Many cities have set themselves increasingly ambitious decarbonization targets, and electric buses play a key role in these roadmaps.
