Alstom has signed a subcontract with Torpol S.A. to modernize the E65 railway line in the section from Katowice Szopienice South to Katowice Piotrowice aiming to improve both urban and long-distance railway traffic by converting the existing double-track system into a four-track one.

The project involves reconstructing approximately 100 kilometers of tracks and 270 turnouts, as well as building over 130 kilometers of new traction network.

Key elements of the project include the construction of a new signal box at Katowice Zawodzie station, a Local Control Centre (LCS) in Katowice, and a technical building at Katowice Ligota station. A modern rail traffic control system will be implemented across all stations, with the control center based at LCS Katowice.

Alstom's Katowice branch, one of the largest producers of railway traffic control systems and equipment in Europe, will manage the design and implementation of these solutions. The project will also modernize 120 engineering structures and 14 platforms, and create six new platforms at Katowice Uniwersytet, Katowice Kokociniec, and Katowice Akademia stations.

"At Alstom, we work every day for modern and sustainable mobility, both in rolling stock and traffic control solutions. We are bringing unique competencies—acquired through the implementation of projects in Poland and the world—to the consortium," said Adam Juretko, Managing Director of Alstom Katowice. "We are constantly developing our branch in Katowice, which brings together several hundred engineers, programmers, testers, and IT specialists with extensive experience in the Polish and international markets. I am glad that the technologies and solutions developed by our team will have a significant impact on the quality and safety of railway services in the Katowice agglomeration."
