Alstom has supplied and implemented railway signalling systems for the newly inaugurated extension of the Yellow Line of Metro do Porto in Oporto, Portugal.
The extension, which spans from Santo Ovídio to Vila d'Este, adds three new stations, including an underground stop, and covers 3.1 kilometers. Alstom’s advanced signalling system, already in use on the network, includes a state-of-the-art interlocking that enables real-time vehicle monitoring. The project was managed from Alstom’s facilities in Maia, Porto.

Metro do Porto, the light rail system in Oporto, covers approximately 78 kilometers of track across six lines, serving about 70 million passengers annually. Alstom has been a key contributor to this network, supplying 102 trains and ATP (Automatic Train Protection) systems for track and onboard signalling. Alstom’s presence in Portugal extends over 30 years, with the company responsible for manufacturing or supplying technology for two-thirds of the trains operating in the country. This includes high-speed, regional, metro, and electric trains, as well as managing over 1,500 kilometers of the Portuguese rail network through its ATP system.
