French engineering company Alstom announced a significant milestone in the history of its achievements, namely the 30th anniversary of the launch of high-speed trains in Spain.
The Renfe Series 100 began running at 300 kilometres per hour on Spanish railways in April 1992, and Alstom was responsible for its design, construction and maintenance. Remarkably, this high-speed train, called AVE (Alta Velocidad Española - High-Speed Spain), was the world's first rail system to refund passengers if they had to wait longer than five minutes. In this way, the trains provided and continue to do so not only speed but also punctuality and quality of travel.
However, that's not the only credit Alstom owes to Spanish railways. According to the press release, the company pioneered high-speed regional routes, the Mediterranean Corridor, automatic driving, advanced signalling technology, the return of the modern tram, new electrification systems, intelligent multimodality management, and application of artificial intelligence in railway maintenance and much more.
Alstom has been actively expanding its presence on the Spanish market for decades, with around 3,000 employees today. The company is actively involved in the rail transport development in Spain, including signalling, infrastructure, train production, services and digital mobility, thus being the only manufacturer and technologist with a local presence.
