Adif is going to renew a conventional railroad section in Badajoz, the one between Aljucén station and Bifurcación La Isla, a 5 km long section that is the connection point of the conventional line with the new High-Speed platform in the vicinity of Mérida.
In this section, which is part of the conventional line Ciudad Real-Badajoz, the track will be renewed with the replacement of all the elements that compose it (ballast, sleepers and rail).

This action is incompatible with traffic between Badajoz and Mérida, both on the conventional line and the new platform. However, to minimize as much as possible the impact on traffic, the works have been organized in such a way that they will be concentrated at two weekends (between 23.00 hours on Friday 27 January and 6.30 hours on Monday 30, and between 23.00 hours on Friday 3 February and 6.30 hours on Monday 6 February) in which the railway company will offer an alternative transport plan.
Boost for the renovation of the Ciudad Real-Badajoz line
The action represents an advance in the renovation and improvement works that Adif is carrying out on the conventional line Ciudad Real-Badajoz after it recently contracted for about 7 million euros for the installation of fixed and mobile telecommunications GSM-R on the 161.5 km route between the stations of Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz) and Brazatortas/Veredas (Ciudad Real). In this same section, the renewal of the signalling system is currently out to tender for some 38 million euros.

In parallel to these investments in signalling and telecommunications, Adif has already renewed more than 57 km of track, for about 40.5 million, in addition to the 36.2 million that will be allocated to renovation work on the Brazatortas-Guadalmez (Ciudad Real) section, which has already been contracted.
These actions are part of Adif's commitment to the renewal and maintenance of the conventional network, and also contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 9: promoting sustainable, efficient and quality infrastructures.
