Adif Alta Velocidad (AV) is allocating €34.7 million to revitalize the Madrid-Seville High-Speed Line (HSL), focusing on the renewal of sleepers and ballast along a 65 km section in the provinces of Cordoba and Seville. This investment involves laying 123,732 new sleepers and 111,475 cubic meters of ballast, which will enhance the line's resilience to rail traffic. This renovation is part of a broader initiative to upgrade the entire line, maintaining its reliability and quality standards, as it has been in operation for over 30 years in Spain.

To date, Adif has mobilized €580 million worth of actions out of a total investment of €650 million for the Madrid-Seville HSL. Key projects underway include comprehensive infrastructure improvements, the renovation of superstructure elements like sleepers, ballast, and turnouts, and the renewal of signalling and telecommunications installations. Other upgrades include the replacement of energy and telecommunications installations, overhead contact line (catenary) elements, and video surveillance and security systems.

All work is being conducted while maintaining rail service, primarily during maintenance windows. However, some tasks require extending maintenance periods or temporarily limiting speeds on specific sections. This investment contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which supports the development of reliable, sustainable, resilient, and high-quality infrastructure.
