The construction of the high-speed line to Galicia, specifically the Pedralba-Ourense section, required crucial analyses and works to minimise environmental impact. Adif AV, the company responsible for the works, designed a succession of viaducts and tunnels representing 75% of the route.
Moreover, preventive and corrective measures were taken to preserve Galicia's natural heritage during the works' execution phase. A year after commissioning, Adif AV is building the high-voltage (220 kV) connection line between the Conso substation (REE) and the new As Portas traction substation, which crosses a valuable enclave dominated by dense woodland.

For the construction of the high-voltage line supports, which are particularly difficult to access, a helicopter was used to transport the materials to the pit, thus avoiding the opening of provisional roads that would have caused impacts on the landscape and flora and fauna. The helicopter transported the concrete from the foundations in the first phase, and then it picked up the different elements of the base camp supports and transported them on various journeys. The As Portas substation, with an investment of 10.1 million euros, will reinforce the power supply of the system, thus increasing the capacity of the electrification system of the Madrid-Galicia High-Speed Line, with a greater number of simultaneous rail traffic.
