The Palencia-Palencia Norte section corresponds to the northern exit of the Palencia station. It starts from a detour in the high-speed line linking Palencia and León, located at the northern end of the station, and runs parallel to the current conventional railway line until it connects with the two stretches already under construction, Palencia Norte-Amusco and Amusco-Osorno.
The design of the section includes the construction of a 457.1 m long viaduct to cross the conventional railway lines at the exit of the station.
Connecting Palencia and Cantabria to the high-speed rail network
The Palencia-Santander high-speed connection involves the construction of a new standard gauge line between the capital city of Palencia and Alar del Rey, along more than 78 km, which will be completed up to Reinosa. A total of 1.7 billion euros has been earmarked for its construction.
The construction of this line will improve Santander's communications with the centre of the country, reducing journey times and reinforcing the reliability and comfort of the infrastructure, while at the same time increasing traffic capacity by having a double track along most of its route.
