Spanish state-owned railway infrastructure manager ADIF declared a tender for the purchase of 15 maintenance locomotives for the Iberian and metric gauge network. The cost of the project is estimated at EUR 118.7 million.
The 8-year contract includes the provision of maintenance services and a minimum stock of spare parts for its management, as well as the supply and installation of safety and communication systems.
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (MITMA) was authorized on March 1st to tender through ADIF for a contract worth EUR 104 million to purchase 15 locomotives for maintenance.
The diesel-electric machines are planned to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h for the Iberian network and 70 km/h for the metric network in weather conditions ranging from 45˚C to -25˚C. The locomotives will be used exclusively for exploration, snow removal, maintenance, and train rescue, and will have two driver's cabs and be equipped with both ETCS and ASFA (Anuncio de Señales y Frenado Automático), the Spanish automatic train protection system.
ADIF also decided to enter into two contracts totaling EUR 21.3 million for the purchase of rolling stock. This includes locomotives that perform last-mile services at freight terminals, as well as providing rail infrastructure maintenance services.
Five-year contracts were signed with Renfe Manufacturing and Maintenance With the purpose of maintaining the fleet of 310-series locomotives for the Eastern, Southern, Central, Northwestern, Northern, and Northeastern regions, five-year contracts were awarded to Renfe Manufacturing and Maintenance, a company specializing in the conversion of rolling stock and repair of railway components.
