French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled a prototype of a new high-speed train last Friday.
Speaking at a presentation at the Parisian Gare de Lyon, E. Macron emphasized the environmental friendliness of the new train. “This decade for TGV will be about innovation,” he said.
The new train will carry more passengers - 740 compared to 600. The rolling stock is scheduled to enter service in 2024. It will also consume one-fifth less electricity than current models while maintaining a top speed of 320 km / h.
The ceremony took place 40 years after another French president, François Mitterrand, launched the first TGV, or Train à Grande Vitesse " ("very fast train"). With a speed of over 270 km / h, the train has changed the face of modern rail transport, according to the French railway company SNCF.
E. Macron's government has promised to invest € 6.5 billion ($ 10.5 billion) this year in the development of high-speed lines.
