By the end of 2022, the Slovenian Railways (SŽ) plan to put into operation 52 new FLIRT and KISS trains, manufactured by Stadler. This was reported by the Railways of the World.
We are talking about 21 single-decker, 10 double-decker electric trains, as well as 21 single-decker diesel trains. The first of them began to be commissioned this month.
SŽ and Stadler signed a contract for the supply of trains in May 2018. After that, the parties signed several more agreements.
The renewal of the rolling stock is being carried out as part of a program to increase the comfort and reliability not only of passenger rail services but also of public transport in the country as a whole.
Thanks to the new trains, Slovenia will increase the frequency of regional services and increase capacity on local routes.
As we reported earlier, Stadler will produce 59 high-capacity electric trains for the Spanish national railway operator Renfe.
