A RegioPanter passenger train collided with a truck on the afternoon of Friday, leading to minor injuries among the fifty passengers aboard. The incident, captured in harrowing video footage, occurred at approximately 2:30 PM at a railway crossing on Hraběšická Street in Vikýřovice.

Police are currently investigating the cause and details surrounding the accident.

"Approximately fifty passengers were on the train. Initial reports indicate that two individuals from the train sustained minor injuries. The 56-year-old truck driver emerged unharmed and was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision," police spokesman Libor Hejtman reported.

The accident serves as a potent reminder of the often-underestimated speed of trains, with a statement from the authorities emphasizing caution: "Trains are faster than they appear. Even if you're quick, the train has won this round. Today's accident in Šumperska shows just how swiftly a situation can turn dangerous. Fortunately, our colleagues and passengers are safe! Next time, luck may not be on your side. It's crucial to remain alert while driving, observe the signals, and ensure the path is clear of oncoming trains.

In the past year, railway incidents have claimed 238 lives. Adhering to the rules of railway safety is imperative to safeguard not only ourselves but also our fellow commuters."

Following the collision, the track and the road from Vikýřovice to Hraběšice were obstructed. A substitute bus service was established between Kouty na Desnou and Šumperk and remained in place until further notice. Train service from Šumperk to Petrov nad Desnou was restored by approximately 5:30 PM.
