Alstom will supply twelve additional trams to VBZ. Initially, VBZ ordered 70 trams in 2017 with an option for 70 more, and they have now exercised the option for 52 additional vehicles, totaling 122 trams.
More than 60 Alstom Flexity trams are already in operation in Zurich. The fleet is equipped with the modern smart solution ODAS (Obstacle Detection Assistance System), which supports the driver by recognizing obstacles along the track. The installed fleet has a high level of availability.

VBZ is meeting a need with the additional vehicles: "We are replacing the older generation of Tram 2000 vehicles with the Flexity tram and are driving forward modernization. Some of the vehicles will also be used to expand services in order to make public transport in Zurich even more attractive," says Marco Lüthi, Director of VBZ.

The vehicles in the initial order of 70 trams will be delivered by the end of 2024. The optional vehicles will be delivered by the spring of 2028.
