ÖBB and Deutsche Bahn (DB) have jointly presented the upgraded Comfort couchette car in Hamburg, which is being used in Nightjet trains, including those to and from Hamburg.
Under an upgrade program, ÖBB converted a total of 22 seating cars into new multifunctional couchette cars. Sabine Stock, a member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG, expressed the company's desire to double the number of Nightjet passengers to three million annually by 2026.

The program aims to increase sleeping comfort and privacy for passengers. The new multifunction couchette cars feature several upgrades, including newly designed 4-seater compartments with fixed beds for families, parking space for baby carriages, modern barrier-free compartments for passengers with limited mobility, and bicycle parking spaces. Technical upgrades include free Wi-Fi and charging options via USB/socket at every couchette, an operating display with various comfort functions, and an electronic access system with video surveillance for greater security.
