Yesterday, March 15th, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala with the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslav Kaczynski, and the Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša visited Kyiv to meet with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The visit of European leaders to the capital of Ukraine took place in VIP cars provided by Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia). What do such cars look like amid war realities?

The saloon car is an actual hotel on wheels. It is equipped with a kitchen, a large hall, and a spacious sleeping compartment. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, and electric hob. The large hall has a seating area, computer, and stereo equipment. The sleeping compartment has a bed, desk, wardrobe, air conditioning, and bathroom.

The number of beds ranges from 5 to 11 (depending on the car design). There are 10 VIP cars in total. They are distributed as follows: five cars in the South-Western branch, two cars - in Lviv, Odesa and Prydniprovsk branches, another car-saloon is offered by the Southern branch. Each of them has its unique interior.

A team of two conductors services each car. They have two service compartments: one for rest, the other for duty.

There is a spacious kitchen, where four people can be accommodated at a time. Aside from the counter, the kitchen has a refrigerator with a freezer, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker, and some other appliances. Following the kitchen, there is a regular compartment for four people. The next room is the meeting room where one can find armchairs and a small sofa, in front of which there's a TV with a video player built into the wall. The penultimate department is a compartment of increased comfort. The room has sockets, bedside tables, and plasma in front of the bed. At the end of the car, there's a spacious bathroom with a toilet, washbasin, shower with hot and cold water, towels, and soap.

The so-called "golden car", which first appeared in the photos in 2015 immediately after the reconstruction, was criticized by the Ukrainian community for its pomp and lack of taste. We can only wonder whether the leadership of European countries traveled "wrapped in gold" or chose a simpler but no less comfortable car.
