The contract for the delivery of trams for Tallinn was signed at the PESA headquarters in Bydgoszcz. It assumes the delivery of 8 vehicles in the first stage and an additional 15 as an option, which means that up to 23 trams manufactured in Bydgoszcz, may run in the capital of Estonia.

"This is the next European capital that has chosen PESA trams. We are proud that by that contract we are also becoming a part of the Rail Baltica project," said Krzysztof Zdziarski, PESA CEO.

PESA has offered Tallinn a 28.56-meter long, 3-section tram from the Twist family, carrying up to 309 passengers (65 seated), with an operational speed of 50 km/h. The trams will be equipped with modern information systems for ticket sales, passenger counting, monitoring, energy recuperation and online diagnostics. Both the driver's cabin and the passenger area will be air-conditioned, and the heated floor will be a novelty.

"We are consistently improving the quality of public transport in Tallinn. Thanks to the Twist trams, our residents will travel in comfortable conditions, and what is important - like all trams and trolleys in Tallinn today, the new trams will run 100% on green electricity," added Andrei Novikov, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn and chairman of the supervisory board of TLT.

The contract value is EUR 52 million (basic order + option). TLT has up to 16 months to order trams according to the option.

"All vehicles are covered by a 48-month warranty. The delivery of the first trams from the basic order will start in the third quarter of 2024," announced Paweł Hardy, Tallinn contract manager at PESA.

The purchase of modern trams is a part of a transport modernisation project in Tallinn. It includes, among other things, the construction of a new tram line to the Old Harbour, the purchase of trams and the creation of a transfer hub. The project is one of the key elements of the Estonian part of Rail Baltica.

"The new tram line will connect the Old Harbour with the Rail Baltica terminal and the airport. This investment will create a very significant modern transfer junction in Tallinn, conjoining bus, train and tram lines at one station," underlined Andrei Novikov.

PESA has so far delivered over 800 trams to several cities in Europe. The trams manufactured in Bydgoszcz carry residents of such cities as Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Kraków, Sofia, Moscow, Kyiv, Jassy, Cluj and Seged. At the moment, the company is carrying out orders for the delivery of further trams for Sofia, Krajowa in Romania and Wrocław. It also submitted the best offer for the delivery of up to 46 trams for Bydgoszcz.
