One of the most beautiful railway lines in the world is best known for J.K. Rowling's famous novel, Harry Potter. The famous Hogwarts Express used to run along it.
This railway line starts symbolically near the highest mountain in Scotland, Ben Nevis, in the town of Fort Williams. It passes through Britain's westernmost mainland station, Arisaig, the UK's deepest freshwater lake, Loch Morar, and Europe's deepest seawater lake, Loch Nevis.
The train stops in the village of Glenfinnan, followed by other picturesque villages. It is possible to get off at Arisaig station. On clear summer days, one can see the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye from here.
Although this railway route is best known for Harry Potter, other famous films have been filmed on sections of it. For example, the line passes the village of Morar, famous for the silvery beaches from Highlander and Local Hero.
One of Europe's most beautiful railway routes is the steam railway. The Jacobite Steam train is all the more of an experience. Its final station is the small fishing village of Mallaig.
