In the Czech Republic, South Moravia’s latest Stadler trains combine tradition with innovation. Named after vineyards, they offer modern comfort and more space for cyclists.
New Stadler train units, named after vineyard routes, have been operating in South Moravia since December. These modern trains, operated by Arriva, complement the existing Moravia trains named after grape varieties. They promote more space for bicycles and advanced technology and enhance daily commuting and regional tourism.

Modern Trains Celebrate South Moravia’s Wine Heritage
The Integrated Transport System of South Moravia has been enriched with new low-floor Stadler trains, operational since mid-December. Bearing names like Dívčí vrch, Purmice, and Pod Mušlovem, the trains honor the region’s rich wine tradition. They join the existing Moravia fleet, which features names of grape varieties such as Pálava, Muškát Moravský, and Rulandské modré.
"We’re delighted that these modernized Stadler trains are now serving areas like Znojmo, Mikulov, Břeclav, and Hodonín," said Jan Grolich, governor of South Moravia. "Residents now have access to comfortable, well-equipped trains that make their travel significantly more pleasant."
High-Tech Features on Vineyard Routes
These trains come equipped with cutting-edge features, including USB ports and power outlets, Wi-Fi connectivity, air conditioning, clear information panels, and ticket vending machines onboard.

One standout feature is the automatic passenger counters. Cameras above the doors track passenger boardings and departures, helping to plan transportation more effectively. Each train offers 100 seats, weighs 66 tons, and will be fitted with European Train Control System (ETCS) technology by December 2025.

The trains also include shared design elements with the Moravia units, such as onboard panels that connect train departures and real-time bus connections, thanks to data from KORDIS (South Moravia’s transport coordination system). The train’s onboard computer connects directly with KORDIS dispatchers, allowing conductors to receive live updates about bus connections in case of delays, streamlining passenger transitions.
Cycling and Traveling Made Easy
South Moravia, known for its cycling routes, has trains designed with cyclists in mind. The low-floor design and rearranged seating provide extra space for bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs. Each train can accommodate: 8 bicycles, 2 strollers, and 2 wheelchairs. "These trains operate in areas popular with cyclists, so we optimized the seating layout to create more room for bikes and strollers," said Daniel Adamka, CEO of Arriva.

Blending Modern Travel with Cultural Tradition
The vineyard-themed names not only pay tribute to South Moravia’s wine culture but also enhance the travel experience for both locals and tourists. The region is a major destination for wine tourism and cycling enthusiasts.
"Modern transport is a cornerstone of our region’s development. These new trains are not just a reliable way to travel—they’re also a pleasant addition to the daily lives of our residents," said Jiří Crha, South Moravia’s Deputy Governor for Transport.

Vineyard Names Featured on the Trains

Consistency with Moravia Units
The new red-and-white trains, marked with the South Moravian Region’s logo, follow the design of the Moravia units, which have been in service since 2023. These 37 units are named after 24 white and 13 red wine varieties.
The deployment of these upgraded trains is the result of a 10-year contract between South Moravia and Arriva, ensuring reliable and modern transport across the region.
