Slovakian ZSSK Adds Several New Trains

Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK) is adding eight trains from Monday (9 January) and five more from 16 January.

Tomáš Kováč, the ZSSK spokesman, informed me about it. According to him, the new trains will please especially the Bratislava region and eastern Slovakia. According to him, the need to add them resulted from communication with local governments and from the evaluation of the real operation of the new timetable. Some of the trains that were previously marked as "going from the date of the announcement" in the train transport timetable for 2022/2023 will be put into operation.

He specified that the above applies to the line sections Senec – Bratislava – Nové Mesto (plus eight trains from 9 January), Margecany – Nálepkovo (plus two trains from 16 January), Nálepkovo – Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa (plus two trains from 16 January) and Lipany – Prešov (plus one train from 16 January).

"I am glad that the Ministry of Transport, after an intensive discussion, has accepted part of our comments on the new timetable, which have been confirmed by the first weeks of practice. I know that finding money for additional trains was not easy at all. The new morning train on the line Lipany - Prešov will delight hundreds of passengers. And I believe that to some extent the regional authorities, which have achieved the strengthening of trains in the vicinity of Bratislava and the Hnilecka valley, will also be satisfied. We will closely monitor their occupancy," added Roman Koreň, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ZSSK.
