DB Regio took over the four lines of the diesel network for Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) just a few months ago and already are modernizing the fleet. The red cars are transporting passengers between Dresden and Kamenz and Königsbrück, on the route through the Müglitztal from Heidenau to Altenberg and between Pirna and Sebnitz.
There are 21 vehicles that operate on this network takes 60 train drivers and 50 customer advisors to function. As required in the tender DB Regio from VVO, DB Regio had taken numerous employees from the Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB) and also hired new employees. Recently there was a short staff issue thanks to an increased sick leave, but the numbers seem to be going down.
"The feedback from the passengers is generally quite positive," sums up Burkhard Ehlen, Managing Director of the VVO. "In particular the frequency increase to Kamenz with the new S-Bahn S 8 and the increase in space to Königsbrück was praised." The VVO is aiming for further growth in passenger numbers on both routes. After the planned modernization of the route to Königsbrück, the S 7 S-Bahn will run more frequently here in the future. With the extension of the railway line from Dresden via Kamenz to Hosena, Senftenberg and Hoyerswerda, the better development of Lusatia is also planned. “Battery trains will probably be used on these lines from 2031,” explains Burkhard Ehlen. "Until then, we are counting on the redesigned Desiros being used reliably for the passengers and on the fact that they make active use of the improvements."
