On April 5, 2022, around 7 a.m. GMT, a truck collided with a train in Mindszent, 140 kilometers southeast of the capital Budapest, near the Hungarian-Serbian border. The collision derailed the train, killing five of the truck's passengers.
According to the state railway company, the truck ignored a red traffic light and ran onto the tracks. Two of the 22 passengers in the car that derailed were seriously injured, and another eight had minor injuries.
Police sealed off the entire width of the road during the investigation and technical rescue. Traffic was rerouted to adjacent streets.
Photos and videos show the car and truck lying on the rail trackside and near it, as well as a helicopter and several ambulances arriving on the scene.
