It's been a remarkable year for PKP Intercity as in the first half of 2023 alone, the company transported nearly 31 million passengers across the nation.

To put that into perspective, that's over 5 million more passengers compared to the same time last year and almost the same as the entire passenger count of 2015, and last year, PKP Intercity chugged its way to a net profit of PLN 52.5 million, which is almost PLN 10 million more than the previous year, despite capital expenses breaching the PLN 1.4 billion mark. This is a massive boost to the financial health of the PKP Group.

PKP Intercity is breaking its own records too. Once compared, the passenger numbers from the first half of this year with those from the same period last year, there's a nearly 20% rise. For example, May and June of 2023 witnessed an impressive monthly passenger count as nearly 5.9 million and 6.05 million passengers chose to travel with PKP Intercity, marking a respective rise of 640,000 and 700,000 passengers compared to last year's figures.

Reflecting on this success, Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, said, "Our predecessors treated rail transport as a relic that is becoming a thing of the past." He comments that in seven years, Polish railways will have to open up to foreign competition. "Thanks to strategic support, PKP Intercity now has very ambitious investment plans," he adds. As more and more modern, comfortable, and increasingly speedy trains zip across Poland, Maciej Małecki remains confident that "the Polish carrier will be ready to face any competition to the benefit of passengers and our economy."
