People with disabilities prefer rails over any other type of transportation, thanks to the increasing accessibility and inclusion. The opinion could get since in the first three quarters of 2021, 84% more passengers with disabilities using the services of PKP Intercity. Notably, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) was significant for increasing social awareness of the limitations faced by people representing this group. In the first three trimesters of 2021, approximately 17,000 clients traveled with PKP Intercity. PKP Intercity funds into fleets for clients with reduced mobility or visibility, making the railway ready for every traveler.
The first COMBO carriages have entered the system in May 2021.
PKP Intercity obtained the remaining 60 vehicles in the past few weeks.
The COMBO carriages also include wheelchair spaces and seating for the guardians.
PKP Intercity plans to further boost its fleet with vehicles adapted to the needs of passengers with disabilities. Eighty-one modern wagons get manufactured by the H. Cegielski Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych plant in Poznań, 10 of which will also have space for people that use wheelchairs.
"The changes taking place on the railways are not only investments in modern rolling stock, increasing the comfort of traveling. It also means improving the accessibility of the railways so that
as many passengers as possible can use them safely and comfortably. That is why we modernize our fleet and improve the passenger service process with the needs and preferences of various groups in mind. Among them, there are people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. We strive to ensure the availability of our services to absolutely all passengers," declares Marek Chraniuk, President of the Management Board of PKP Intercity.
