After 29 years, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is restoring the rail link to Zegrze Południowe from June 11. The investment, carried out for a net cost of PLN 45 million, will enable residents of towns and villages near Warsaw to travel directly to work and schools. Warsaw residents will gain an efficient train connection to Lake Zegrzyńskie. The task is co-financed with EU funds from the RPO of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.

The investment, carried out by PLK SA since June 11, will provide efficient connections from Zegrze Południowe to Wieliszew, Legionowo and Warsaw. It will take approximately 4 minutes to travel the 3.5 km section between Wieliszew and Zegrze Południowe. A direct journey from Zegrze Południowe to Gdanski Warsaw will take about 35 minutes and to West Warsaw about 45 minutes. Trains will depart every hour or so.

"The passenger connection from Warsaw to Zegrze Południowe increases travel opportunities in the Warsaw agglomeration and reduces transport exclusion in other regions. Rail provides environmentally friendly and safe travel," said Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

"On June 11, 2023, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is restoring rail connections on two Mazovia lines after almost three decades. In both cases, the infrastructure manager aimed to combat transport exclusion and to make it easier for residents of smaller towns to get to school and work and to places of rest," said Ireneusz Merchel, President of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe S.A.

Passengers will gain the Wieliszew Centrum stop near the junction of the railway line with Modlińska Street (provincial road 631) and the Zegrze Południowe station on Lake Zegrzyńskie. The two single-edge platforms at the rebuilt Zegrze Południowe station and one single-edge platform at the new Wieliszew Centrum passenger stop are adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility. There are guided paths and ramps. Lighting has been installed. Benches and shelters have been set up. Good orientation is ensured by information boards and clear signage.

Modernisation of the line also involved the railway road crossing in Wieliszew at Modlińska Street (provincial road 631). The road surface was replaced, new tracks were laid, and a pedestrian and cycle path was created. The crossing was equipped with signals and horns.

The appropriate level of safety on the line is ensured by new traffic control equipment. The project "Works on railway line No. 28 Wieliszew - Zegrze" is co-financed 80 per cent by European Funds under the Regional Operational Programme of the Mazovian Voivodeship for 2014-2020.
