PKP Intercity is in the process of installing vending machines on its trainsets. These machines will debut on eight trains servicing routes nationwide as part of a year-long pilot program. Passengers will have the opportunity to purchase both hot and cold beverages, snacks, and sandwiches from these machines.

Soon, selected PKP Intercity trains will be equipped with vending machines, elevating the travel experience for passengers on both short and long journeys. Available selections will include a variety of cold and hot drinks, snacks such as bars, waffles, or chips, and fresh sandwiches.

The quality of the offerings will be ensured by WARS, the operator of the new machines. All vending machines will exclusively accept card payments.

"We are nearing the completion of a pilot project to install modern vending machines in selected trains. This is fantastic news for our passengers, who will soon enjoy 24/7 access to snacks, drinks, and sandwiches, greatly enhancing our long-distance catering services," said Marek Chraniuk, CEO of PKP Intercity.

The introduction of vending machines on scheduled trains is targeted for late April or early May. The final formalities for installing the vending machines on PKP Intercity trainsets and the concluding technical adjustments are currently underway. The new devices will be featured on trains including:

  • IC Galczynski on the Warsaw-Szczecin/Swinoujscie-Warsaw route;
  • IC Strzelecki on the Warsaw - Gorzów Wielkopolski - Warsaw route;
  • IC Mewa in relation to Warsaw - Szczecin/Swinoujscie - Warsaw;
  • IC Podlasiak in relation to Suwałki - Szczecin/Świnoujście - Suwałki;
  • IC Mamry on the Wrocław - Olsztyn - Wrocław route;
  • IC Lednica on the Poznań - Gdynia - Poznań route;
  • IC Drwęca in relation to Olsztyn - Poznań - Olsztyn;
  • IC Bachus in relation to Zielona Góra - Gdynia - Zielona Góra.

The roster of trainsets featuring vending machines may evolve with the introduction of new timetables. These services will be trialed on the trains listed above for one year. The vending machines are supplied by Quattro Sp. z o.o., selected via a competitive tender.

Initially, the vending machines will be installed in COMBO-type multifunctional cars, of which PKP Intercity currently has 60. This number is set to increase to 155 as PKP Intercity Remtrak and H. Cegielski - Railway Vehicles Factory fulfill orders to modernize the cars. In time, the devices will also be accessible in modernized ED-74 electric multiple units, affectionately known as "Ediths."
