In a move towards a more comfortable and digitally integrated travel experience, PKP Intercity has taken the lead in amplifying mobile telephony signals aboard its trains. Deploying mobile network repeaters, the initiative currently covers 300 carriages. Through collaborations with major Polish telecom operators - Orange Polska, Play, Polkomtel (Plus network), and T-Mobile Polska, the company seeks to facilitate better mobile device usage for both work and leisure during travel. With an ambitious target in sight, PKP Intercity aspires to introduce these repeaters to a total of 554 carriages by the year's end.

The intricacies of the amplifiers warrant attention. Not only do they boost signals across five bands – 800, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2600MHz, but they also come with stringent configuration requirements. Unlike their stationary counterparts, these mobile amplifiers must deactivate their signal amplification when a train crosses international borders, for instance. This intricate configuration and operational testing involved dedicated efforts from PKP Intercity's technical team, along with their partners Ledatel and PKP Telkol, and the mobile operators. Commencing with 50 repeaters on September 1, 2023, the second batch saw 250 amplifiers rolled out by October 10, underscoring the carrier's commitment to this transformative project.
