"Travel, work, relax - and feel as comfortable as in your living room at 300 km/h: The new design is geared to our passengers' demands for modern travel comfort, significantly more individuality and genuine sustainability. We are sure that this will inspire even more people to travel by climate-friendly rail and that the climate will win too," comments DB CEO Richard Lutz at the premiere presentation of the design model in Berlin.

New ICE train seats are designed in a way that creates a sense of personal refuge. They combine modern materials (e.g., wooden décor), harmonious design and covers made of high-quality fabric with 85 per cent wool content. Class 1 will feature covers in grey tones, while Class 2 will feature blue colours. The onboard restaurant will have seats in burgundy shades. Additional functionality will be provided by items such as a tablet holder or clothing hooks in each backrest.

"We always focus on people and their needs when travelling. In developing the new design, we put a lot of emphasis on privacy, the design of personal space and an entirely new colour and material concept," says Michael Peterson, DB's head of long-distance transport.

ICE trains have been in use for the past few decades, with an average of four passengers using their seats 1,500 times a year. The durable, hard-wearing materials are comprehensive and intensively tested for abrasion, lightfastness and cleaning properties, ensuring comfort over a long service life.
