Talbot Services performed a pre-production upgrade of the Coradia Continental train, one of 35 built by Alstom for the Bremen city rail S-Bahn and operated by NordWestBahn, a subsidiary of Transdev. The work was carried out at the Talbot Services facility in Aachen (Germany) on behalf of the train owner, the Alpha Trains leasing company.
The modernization included the installation of a new passenger information system with large displays for real-time information about trains that can be connected to, and wireless Wi-Fi equipment prepared for 5G mobile communications, as well as outlets for charging e-bikes and connectors for mobile devices.
Renovation of interior details included replacement of upholstery of chairs and armrests, installation of tables, lighting systems. Compliance with increased hygiene standards is ensured by applying a high-strength coating to the handrails and preparing for the installation of dispensers of disinfectants and fragrances in toilets. Conditions have been created for comfortable travel for passengers with limited mobility.
Operator NordWestBahn has operated Coradia Continental trains on a 270 km line in Lower Saxony since December 2010 and, following an international tender in 2019, extended the contract until December 2036.
The modernization of the remaining 34 trains is scheduled to begin in January 2023, decommissioning two units at a time, the work will take six weeks.
