Lithuanian Train Journey Ends in a Wedding Eight Years Later

Simona was travelling to Radviliškis, while Vykintas was heading to Telšiai. They met in a crowded carriage in early 2018 and returned to the railway on July 10, 2026, for their wedding shooting.

The two first met shortly after New Year in 2018. Simona had briefly returned to Lithuania from abroad and was taking the train to Radviliškis. Vykintas was travelling further west to Telšiai. Holiday traffic was heavy, and tickets had sold out. Both were told they could buy one after boarding. They ended up in the same carriage, seated among the additional passengers taken on board that day, according to LTG.

"We started talking and exchanged contact information. Later, I moved back abroad, so our relationship remained friendly," Simona recalled.

They stayed in contact, although neither was in a position to take the relationship any further. Simona later admitted that she continued to think about Vykintas and wondered whether things might have developed differently had she been living in Lithuania.

Several years later, she returned to Lithuania to study veterinary medicine in Kaunas. By then, Vykintas had also moved to the city. They continued speaking from a distance before finally arranging to meet again in August 2024, and this time, the timing worked. They began a relationship, moved in together and decided to start a family. Less than two years after meeting again, and eight years after their first conversation on the train, they married on 10 July 2026.

The Couple Returned to the Railway for Their Wedding Photos

The choice of location for the wedding photographs was simple. Simona and Vykintas returned to a railway station and posed beside a train, the place where they had first met. "We wanted to come back here," Simona said.

LTG has not specified which station or train was used for the photoshoot, but it seems the railway is likely to remain part of their plans. The couple say they enjoy travelling and would like to explore more of Europe by train in the future.

LTG Link Carried 5.9 Million Passengers in 2025

LTG Link, the passenger operator within Lithuania’s state-owned LTG Group, carried 5.9 million passengers in 2025. The company runs around 200 services each day across 24 domestic and international routes.

RAILTARGET checked the figures from the wedding story against separate LTG publications. The total of 5.9 million passengers also appears in the company’s July 2026 announcement on the expansion of dynamic pricing to the Vilnius–Klaipėda route, while the number of daily services and routes was separately repeated ahead of Lithuania’s Train Travellers’ Day.

LTG reported that 97.2% of its passenger trains arrived on time in 2025, which makes the operator one the best-performing rail companies in the European Union. Its report for the first half of that year recorded punctuality of 97.8%.

Passenger numbers are expected to continue growing. LTG Link’s current strategy sets a target of 9.3 million passengers a year by 2029, supported by new trains, additional domestic routes and better timetable coordination.
