Since the start of the war in Ukraine, more than 500,000 Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war have already used PKP Intercity's free train service. Almost 233,000 refugees have traveled by train from border areas in various directions in Poland, mainly to Warsaw, Krakow, Wrocław, and Katowice. Among the international destinations, most people chose to go to Berlin.

Trains run constantly between Poland and Ukraine. Together with Ukrainian Railways, they maintain rail connections to Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. In recent days, trains from Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Kharkiv have also arrived in Poland. Passengers arrive mainly at railway stations in Przemyśl, Chełm, Hrubieszów, and Warsaw, where they receive the necessary assistance, food, and information about other transport options.

More free connections to Germany

Starting from March 9th until further notice, all PKP Intercity trains from Warsaw, Przemyśl (via Kraków), and Gdynia to Berlin and Frankfurt/Oder run in the InterCity (IC) category, which allows Ukrainian citizens to travel in 2nd class for free. Moreover, the Polish carrier, in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, has launched an additional connection for refugees to Hannover.

There is also a special PKP Intercity hotline in Ukrainian for Ukrainian citizens who want to get information about the carrier's timetables and other passenger-related issues in their native language. The hotline is available on +48 22 473 00 86 (call price according to the operator's tariff), 800 033 022 (toll-free hotline for all domestic operators).
