Modern, comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly – these are the new Świdnik Miasto and Kanie railway stations. These are the next facilities in the Lublin voivodship opened for travelers in November.
Both buildings were constructed as part of the Railway Station Investment Programme. Their construction was subsidized by EU funds from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.

Świdnik Miasto and Kanie railway stations are modern buildings constructed in the Innovative System Railway Station formula according to PKP S.A.'s original concept. They are characterized by a simple, geometric and modern body with a dominant feature in the form of an eight-meter-tall clock tower. Functionally, the buildings are divided into two parts covered by a common canopy. The first of these houses the passenger service area, a lobby that also serves as a waiting room. It is furnished following contemporary architectural trends in light colors, with plenty of daylight entering through large-format glass display windows. The waiting room is equipped with benches, display cabinets, electronic boards for train arrivals and departures, a voice announcement system, and a clock. It is also fully air-conditioned. A toilet is located adjacent to it, while the second part of each station houses a small rental space. Under the canopy that covers both parts, bicycle racks (each location holds 28 bikes) are also located, along with bicycle repair stations. The stations are almost identical, but the appearance of the façade differs. In Świdnik, it is finished with large-format panels in white and melange grey. In Kania, on the other hand, the cladding is dominated by a brick-like appearance, which is a reference to the appearance of the historic station building.
"I am glad there are more modern and traveler-friendly railway stations in the Lublin region. I am convinced that the small but comfortable buildings will serve the inhabitants well. Their construction is a very important element of the modernization of railway infrastructure, which is a priority for us," says Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets.

"The opening of the stations in Świdnik and Kania is another element of the great modernization of the Polish railway. Inhabitants of the Lubelskie Voivodeship will thus gain access to safe and comfortable railway infrastructure. I hope that the buildings completed under the Innovative Railway Station formula will become landmarks of Świdnik and Kania and make it easier for passengers to travel by train in the voivodeship. All this is thanks to the Station Investment Programme, under which the Polish government will allocate more than PLN 2 billion for the modernization of nearly 200 railway stations by 2023," says Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.
"Świdnik Miasto and Kanie are the 3rd and 4th railway stations, respectively, that we opened for travelers in the Lubelskie Voivodeship this month. They are modern, comfortable, and accessible to all travelers, including those with disabilities, so I am convinced that they will meet the expectations of all those using rail services," says Ireneusz Maślany, member of the Management Board of PKP S.A.
"Further new railway infrastructure facilities have just joined the investments successfully completed thanks to EU funding. Comfortable, environmentally friendly, safe, convenient, and barrier-free - this is the formula behind the construction of the Świdnik Miasto and Kanie railway stations in the Lublin region, which have been used by travelers since November. Such modern facilities make the railway more accessible for passengers and change their immediate surroundings for the better," says Joanna Lech, director of the Centre for European Union Transport Projects.

However, the new Świdnik Miasto and Kanie stations are not only about modern and functional architecture. The buildings are free of architectural barriers and equipped with many facilities for people with disabilities. These include guided paths in and around the buildings, signage in Braille, a contrasting color scheme for the interiors of the stations, and tactile boards with plans for the facilities.
Several environmentally friendly solutions have been implemented at the Świdnik Miasto and Kanie stations. These include energy-efficient lighting, heat pumps, as well as photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the buildings to generate green energy. Intelligent building management systems are responsible for the operation of equipment at the stations. These optimize electricity, heat, and water consumption. Security systems are also state-of-the-art, such as monitoring, access control, or burglary and assault signaling, among others.
The redevelopment of the Świdnik Miasto and Kanie stations also included their immediate surroundings. Greenery was tidied up and new pavements were built. In addition, 8 parking spaces were designated in the vicinity of the station in Kanie, including a space for people with disabilities and a kiss&ride stop.
