4G technology allows passengers to enjoy a stable and high-quality connection even in the most unfavourable areas such as railway tunnels, both through the on-board train WiFi service and through the direct coverage of all the TLC Operators who have joined the project: TIM as the leader, iliad, Vodafone and WINDTRE.
Upgrades to 4G technology will also be launched in the coming months on the high-speed routes between Bologna and Florence, and then continue during 2023 from Turin to Milan, from Florence to Naples, and from Bologna to Venice. The goal is to achieve increasingly reliable voice and data connectivity on high-speed lines but also on conventional lines, starting with the busiest routes, to guarantee high-quality service to passengers on HS, Intercity and Regional trains and rail freight companies.

The activation of the facilities on the HS Milan-Bologna represents the first piece of the agreement signed between the FS Italian Group, through the infrastructure manager RFI, and TIM in December 2021. Feasibility studies related to the possible use of 5G technologies are also planned as part of PNRR-related initiatives.
