On 11 December 2022, the first Nightjet to Genoa celebrated its premiere. At 7:18 p.m., the premiere train set off from Vienna Central Station towards Italy and was ceremoniously seen off by Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, Italian Ambassador Stefano Beltrame and ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä. In cooperation with Trenitalia, ÖBB now offers the night train connection from Vienna via Bruck/Mur, Leoben, Klagenfurt and Villach to Italy. The NJ 233 was extended from Milan for this purpose and will, in future, run daily to Genoa and on to La Spezia.

Klaus Garstenauer, Member of the Board of ÖBB Personenverkehr AG, expressed his enthusiasm at the stop in Bruck an der Mur, where he was greeted by local MP Helga Ahrer and local MP Cornelia Izzo: "We are very pleased that the European night train network is now growing further thanks to the cooperation with our partners. With Genoa and the Cinque Terre region, we are creating new attractive Nightjet destinations, which, in future, can be reached daily in a climate-friendly and comfortable way. From now on, you can travel with the Nightjet from Bruck an der Mur and Leoben directly to the Italian Riviera without long tiring car journeys, and it is 30 times more CO2-friendly by night train than by car."

Your own compartment for more privacy

On ÖBB Nightjets, single seats can be booked in the seating car, couchette or sleeping car. For customers who appreciate maximum privacy, it is also possible to book the compartments in the three comfort categories as separate (private) compartments. It allows passengers to travel alone with their family or friends in a compartment without having to share it with other passengers.
