European Sleeper Expands Its Route, Connecting More Capitals and Enhancing Green Travel

The Dutch-Belgian night train operator European Sleeper has announced a significant expansion in its service by introducing new stops in Dresden, Bad Shandau, and Prague, following the inaugural ride from Brussels to Berlin, announced about ten months ago.

A special event unveiling the new route took place on March 25th, 2024, in collaboration with various tourism boards and České dráhy (Czech Railways). Being an environmentally friendly alternative to air travel, these trains are part of a broader movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, showcasing the potential of night trains to turn lengthy travels into convenient overnight journeys.

Elmer van Buuren, Co-Founder of European Sleeper, expressed excitement about the new Prague route. "Our goal is to add a new route each year so we can continue to contribute to a more integrated and sustainable European transportation network and we're proud to offer these incredible new destinations to travelers in Europe and beyond," said van Buuren.

"Night trains are now making a comeback all over Europe and I am very glad that the Czech Republic is not left behind," commented Martin Kupka, Czech Minister of Transport. "It is an environmentally friendly alternative to air transport, which confirms that rail will play an increasingly important role in the future. For us, this is another signal that we urgently need not only to complete the modernization of existing rail corridors, but also to speed up the preparation and construction of high-speed lines."

According to European Sleeper, the ticket prices start at EUR 49 for a seat and EUR 79 for a couchette. The operator also has plans for a new route connecting Amsterdam, Brussels, and Barcelona, aiming to expand its network.
