One of the most picturesque railway lines in the world gained fame through J.K. Rowling’s renowned novel, Harry Potter. In the fictional universe, the iconic Hogwarts Express traverses this route.
This railway journey begins near Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, in the town of Fort William. The route includes a stop at Britain’s most westerly mainland station, Arisaig, and passes by Great Britain’s deepest freshwater lake, Loch Morar, as well as Europe's deepest seawater lake, Loch Nevis.
The train halts in the village of Glenfinnan, followed by other scenic villages along the way. Passengers have the option to disembark at Arisaig station. On clear summer days, the "Small Isles" of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna, and the southern tip of the Isle of Skye are visible.
While this railway line is most famous for its association with Harry Potter, it has also been featured in other well-known films. The route goes through the village of Morar, recognized for its silvery beaches, which appeared in the movies Highlander and Local Hero.
This steam railway route is one of the most beautiful in Europe, making the journey aboard the Jacobite Steam Train an even more extraordinary experience. The final stop is the quaint fishing village of Mallaig.
