The consortium of Siemens and Škoda Transportation recorded another success in mutual cooperation, and the result is, among other things, this new order from the flagship passenger railway carrier in the Czech Republic. The wagons combine efficiency, comfort and economy of operation and promise better enjoyment of passengers during the wagons motion. The volume of the order will be around half a billion euros.

The flag carrier of Czech Railways (ČD) continues to modernize its fleet of long-distance domestic and international tracks. The consortium of Siemens Mobility and Škoda Transportation won the tender for 20 nine-carriages Viaggio Comfort non-traction units, including control train carriages designed for a maximum operating speed of 230 km / h. The train carriages will be delivered from 2024 to 2026 and the value of the contract is approximately half a billion euros.

Czech Railways buys new passenger cars.

"We are glad that ČD is once again relying on our successful Viaggio passenger train carriages to expand and modernize its services," says Gerhard Greiter, CEO of Siemens Mobility's Northeast Europe region. "These new train carriages will bear the brand of our Czech technical department. They score points, for example, with barrier-free access for all passengers and quiet ride conditions at high speeds for comfortable travel. Our state-of-the-art wagons will help make sustainable rail transport in the Czech Republic even more attractive. "

"The Czech Republic plans to increase the speed limit on its conventional railway tracks to 200 km / h and to build high-speed tracks that will allow trains to run faster than the current 160 km / h limit. Therefore, we must continue our planned investment in new trains that meet the standards for vehicles operating on both conventional and high-speed networks in Central Europe. This will strengthen our long-term strategic partnerships in international transport and our position in long-distance transport, "explains Ivan Bednárik, Chairman of the Board and CEO of ČD, adding:" The units will be equipped with the most advanced features available in today's European market and offer passengers the highest level of comfort. "

The new passenger carrriages are intended for the transport of ČD passengers and the other two carrriages are to be purchased by the Czech railway carrier for the purpose of testing on the railway. The new train carriages have a number of innovative functions: Passengers will appreciate the adjustable seats in the first and second class, charging sockets for e-bikes and the most modern bistro section. The standard will be a WiFi connection, frequency-transparent windows for better reception of the GSM signal of mobile phones and an on-board information and electronic reservation system. The train carriages of the nine train sets will also be equipped with wireless mobile phone chargers for first-class passengers, a children's cinema and storage space for 12 bicycles.

The train carriages will be approved for operation in the Czech Republic and neighboring European countries, such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. Train carriages interoperability will be ensured by meeting the relevant regional specifications. The leading train carriages will be equipped with the ETCS on-board unit as well as the national train protection systems.

In 2018, Czech Railways previously ordered 50 Viaggio Comfort cars from Siemens Mobility and Škoda Transportation.
