Budimex, one of Poland’s largest construction companies responsible for developing high-speed rail networks, has officially transferred the newly constructed 'Tram to Wilanów' line to Tramwaje Warszawskie, making it accessible to Warsaw residents from October 28.

The tram line spanning over 8 kilometers is Poland’s longest newly built tram line, supporting the city’s sustainable transport goals.

Extensive Infrastructure and Power Support

The new line features an extensive infrastructure, including 19 kilometers of track, 20 kilometers of catenary, and 16 kilometers of suspension ropes. Budimex also installed 256 kilometers of cables, 380 catenary poles, and 25 platforms. Four traction substations, including Poland’s first underground two-level substation, were built to ensure power reliability across the route. Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA, commented, "This is an investment that not only improves mobility but also supports ecological solutions in public space."

In addition to the tram infrastructure, Budimex worked on reconstructing water, heating, and storm sewer systems, and power and internet networks. The scale of materials used for the project was substantial, with 250,000 tons of sand and 200,000 tons of aggregate brought in. Popko mentioned the project’s scope, noting that they "transported and managed over one million tons of bulk materials," equivalent to the distance from Warsaw to Wrocław if measured in total cabling and infrastructure length.

Ongoing Work in Mokotów and Wilanów

While the tram line itself is operational, ongoing work continues in Mokotów and Wilanów to enhance pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. In Mokotów, crews are laying curbs and sidewalks, preparing road surfaces, and completing technical inspections. Although passengers can now use the tram line, Budimex is still addressing finishing touches, such as installing small architectural features and completing the green sedum layer along parts of the track.
