Ukrainian Railways have introduced the first women's compartments in long-distance trains on four routes in a test mode.
"We are moving from hype to action. As promised, we are introducing women's compartments on a trial basis. Next, we will look at the demand and decide on scaling up this project to a larger number of night connections. We are also working to improve safety on trains, and we will soon announce several more solutions," said Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways).

For the time being, tickets will be sold exclusively in the mobile application of the Ukrainian national carrier. Such cars will be specially marked in the app, and boarding will be open solely to women and children under the age of six.
According to the press centre of Ukrzaliznytsia, one order is limited to four tickets, and the cost of one ticket in a women's compartment does not differ from the cost of a regular one.

The pilot launch of women's compartments provides for four long-distance connections, including:
- Kyiv - Uzhhorod;
- Dnipro - Truskavets;
- Kyiv - Kryvyi Rih;
- Kharkiv - Yasinia.
It is primarily due to the statistics on the number of complaints and conflict cases registered since the beginning of the year.

The test with the introduction of women's compartments is one of the elements of systemic safety improvements on trains. Other elements include equipping cars with CCTV cameras, alarms on compartment doors and buttons to call the conductor, and paramilitary patrols.
