The trans-European network of night trains, consisting of 40 international long-distance lines, will connect more than 200 European cities by 2030.

Such actions are caused by the containment of climate change. In particular, it is noted that aviation creates almost 14% of emissions, making it the second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions after road transport. Instead, the EuroNight train runs on renewable energy sources. According to the European Environment Agency, air transport emits 252.8 grams of carbon per kilometre of travel, while rail transport emits only 22.4 grams.

To address this situation, countries such as the Netherlands and Spain have proposed banning flights that can be reached by train in three hours or less.

The German Green Party created a map based on modern railway lines. The project explains that the system should be supported by comfortable, quiet trains at speeds between 200 and 250 kilometres per hour, thus creating journeys that last between 9 and 14 hours on average.

The EU is reportedly aiming to double the use of high-speed rail by 2030 and triple current levels by 2050. It was reported by SchengenVisaInfo.com.
