Alstom will supply SYTRAL (Lyon's Public Transport Authority), the Lyon public transport operator, with an additional 35 wagons of the Citadis tram family. The Destinations 2026 plan is currently being implemented in Lyon, which provides for the commissioning of new tram lines.

This order, worth €115 million, was issued within the framework of the available option in the agreement signed in 2018.

Currently, the SYTRAL fleet consists of 34 Citadis tram cars with a length of 43 m and 73 cars with a length of 32 m, which are used on six lines. With the acquisition of the new batch, the number of Citadis city parks will be 142 units. Thus, it will become one of the most numerous in France. The first order for wagons of this type for Lyon was issued in 1998, and the first wagons were put into operation in 2000.

The new rolling stock is similar to the 15 43 m long wagons that were delivered in 2020 and 2021. and are operated on the T3 and T4 lines. Their distinctive feature is a modified bow, which provides better visibility and comfort for the tram driver. Each carriage can accommodate up to 287 passengers, equivalent to the population of four buses.

Inside low-floor cars, an optimal level of passenger comfort is ensured. There are air conditioning and video surveillance systems, modern information systems are installed. Citadis rolling stock is 98% made from materials that can be recycled and reused.

The Citadis family tram design was developed at the Alstom production site in La Rochelle, France. Seven Alstom factories in France will take part in the manufacture of the new rolling stock: design, assembly, testing and verification of systems will be carried out in La Rochelle, bogies will be manufactured in Le Creusot, traction equipment in Tarbes, tachometers in Aix-en-Provence, equipment for maintenance and repair - in Valenciennes, on-board automated systems, including information, - in Villerbahn.
