Victoria's Department of Transportation has signed a € 300 million contract with Alstom to supply 25 X'trapolis family six-car electric trains for Melbourne's commuter network.

The contract also covers a two-year period for the design and development of the new generation trains together with the customer. The layout with the interiors of the salons of these trains is planned to be presented to the public at the end of 2022. The level of production localization will reach 60%. The capacity of each train will be 1240 people. The order will support Alstom's facility in Ballarat, near Melbourne.

Victoria has a large fleet of Alstom-built rolling stock, including 106 X'trapolis electric trains, 88 Vlocity regional diesel trains and 141 tram cars of two families - Flexity and Citadis.
