In the future, Alpha Trains' trains will also be operated in the German Rheingau region: the operator VIAS Rail GmbH (VIAS), a subsidiary of the RATH Group, will lease eight brand new Stadler FLIRT3 XL trainsets from Alpha Trains on a long-term basis. The contract also includes the option to lease an additional train. The four-car multiple units will complement the existing VIAS fleet and be put into service from December 2025 on the new RE19 regional express line on the right side of the Rhine between Koblenz and Frankfurt.

The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and the Zweckverband Schienenpersonennahverkehr Rheinland-Pfalz Nord (SPNV-Nord) have awarded the operation of the RB10 "Rheingau Line" and the future RE19 regional express line to VIAS. VIAS has already held the operating concession for the RB10 line since 2010 and, after winning the new operating contract for the RB10 line, has also managed to acquire the operation of the new RE19 line. The new Rheingau Express line (RE19) complements the existing RB10 line and replaces the RE9 line, which has been operated between Eltville and Frankfurt only during peak hours.
"With the state-of-the-art FLIRT3 XL railcars, we can offer our passengers an attractive and comfortable transport service on the Rheingau Express. These vehicles are an excellent addition to our existing fleet. We are pleased to be able to continue our long-standing cooperation with Stadler Germany. We are equally delighted to have Alpha Trains as our new competent partner", said Franz Reh, Managing Director of VIAS Rail GmbH.

"We are very pleased to establish a long-term partnership with our new customer, the operator VIAS Rail GmbH (VIAS). The cooperation up to the signing of the contract was very professional and committed and showed that both companies are on the same 'wavelength'. We have created the best conditions to be able to successfully implement this project on time despite the tight deadlines – we only had one month between the awarding of the operating contract and the signing of the lease agreement," said Thomas Schmidt, Managing Director of Alpha Trains Europa GmbH.
"We are proud that this VIAS order for the Rheingau Express line once again involves vehicles from the proven FLIRT range. Equipping the trains with state-of-the-art Guardia train safety equipment contributes to a significant improvement of the interval timetable and connections", says Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Germany.
The state-of-the-art Stadler FLIRT3 XL electric multiple units consist of 4 cars and, with their extra long cars, offer passengers 230 comfortable seats and a maximum total transport capacity of 512 passengers. The spacious multi-purpose compartments allow up to 12 bicycles, four prams, and two wheelchairs to be transported per train. Six doors on each side of the train ensure rapid passenger exchange. Thanks to an optimised access platform, the intermediate service car offers a level entry/exit without gaps and is equipped with wheelchair lifts.
