As December approaches, there are notable shifts in the pricing structure for long-distance services by Deutsche Bahn. Among these changes, one of the most significant is the introduction of early-booking discounts for flex fares. Previously, this principle was exclusive to saver fares. It entails that the earlier a customer books, the lesser the ticket cost. This innovative approach allows DB to optimize capacity utilization.

However, while the entry-level prices for Super Sparpreis and Sparpreis tickets hold steady at EUR 17.90 and EUR 21.90 respectively, there's an average increase of 4.9 percent across specific long-distance services and BahnCards, with some exemptions.

For instance, the BahnCard 25 for the 2nd class will see a new price of EUR 62.90 per year, a slight ascent from its earlier EUR 59.90. Interestingly, prices for the BahnCard 50 remain untouched. Similarly, route season tickets will also undergo a 4.9% surge. Furthermore, the (Super) Sparpreis Senioren will be introduced as a constant feature, with tickets starting from EUR 15.90 and EUR 19.90.

In contrast, the City-Ticket is undergoing a revision. Although previously integrated with Flexpreis and Sparpreis tickets for complimentary local transport, it will now be separately available for Sparpreis and Super Sparpreis customers based on the respective transport association's pricing. Flexpreis still includes the City Ticket, offering a comprehensive package.

For travelers keen on planning ahead, bookings that align with the new timetable, including those over the festive period, commence on October 11. Moreover, until December 9, the older pricing model remains in effect. Deutsche Bahn is also rolling out a special promotion throughout October for the BahnCard 25, priced at EUR 33 for 2nd class and EUR 66 for 1st class. This card offers a 25% markdown on both Flex and Spar fares for a year from its initial day of activation.
