Footage taken on Twitter has shown that the soil at the site of the Ohio vinyl chloride train derailment is saturated with the dangerous chemical, pumping it into the surrounding area. This extremely dangerous substance is causing people poisoning and animal deaths.

"Contaminated soil will continue to release pollution into the air, water and groundwater. Every time it rains, these contaminants saturate the ecosystem," environmental expert Richard Peltier told CNN News.com.

His statement is confirmed by videos posted on Twitter by US Senator J.D. Vance. The senator is shown in the video standing near a creek near East Palestine, where a train derailed on February 3, poking at the wet soil with a stick. At first glance, everything appears normal; after a moment of poking, the water in the ground turns into a toxic rainbow colour notorious for chemical pollution. The inference is that the poisonous substance is coming directly from the soil soaked with it like a wet sponge.

The environmental disaster at the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line occurred on February 3. Apparently, due to a mechanical failure, a Norfolk Southern train also derailed there.

Several cars contained poisonous vinyl chloride gas, which, although it did not escape from the cars, threatened to explode, so employees decided to release the substance in a controlled manner and then burn it.

This attempt to dispose of the substance created a thick black smoke in the air that lingered for several days after the incident.

Residents of the small town were evacuated for this reason. After two days, they were told they could return home, whereupon they began to show signs of poisoning in the form of nausea, headaches and general weakness.

In addition, fish began to die in local waters, chickens in backyards, and some pets were also affected. Norfolk Southern and HEPACO should have cleaned up the area, but they forgot all about the poison-soaked soil.
