České dráhy, in cooperation with its German partner DB, arranged the trip for German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier from Berlin to Prague for his official state visit to the Czech Republic. The German Federal President used the EuroCity Berliner train for his journey.

Berliner trains offer fast and convenient connections between the two cities. They are part of the European EuroCity network with many guaranteed services and their operation is provided by České dráhy cars and locomotives from Prague to Berlin, Hamburg and Kiel," said Jiří Ješeta, ČD's Deputy Director General for Passenger Transport.

In addition to air-conditioned spaces, EuroCity comfort sets also offer restaurant cars with a bar compartment, on-board Wi-Fi network, charging travel electronics from the 230 V 50 Hz network and via USB ports. For wheelchair users there is a disabled car in the set, for passengers with young children a separate children's compartment with space to store the stroller, and cyclists have places for bicycles on the train.

"In connection with the modernization of the railway in Germany and the introduction of a speed of 200 km/h between Dresden and Berlin, the journey time between the Czech and German capitals will be reduced by about half an hour in the coming years. In the coming years, České dráhy will deploy completely new non-traction units, which have the character of a high-speed train. They will travel at speeds of up to 230 km/h in the section between Berlin and Hamburg," Jiří Ješeta outlined the future of the Czech-German connection.

In the future, after the opening of a new high-speed line in the Czech Republic and the Erzgeg Tunnel, the journey between Prague and Berlin will be shortened to only 2 to 2.5 hours.

The aim of the visit is to deepen the Czech-German neighborhood.  As part of the visit, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to meet with the highest constitutional officials of the Czech Republic: the President of the Republic Miloš Zeman, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, and the presidents of both parliamentary chambers.
