The Central Commission of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic approved a feasibility study for the railway connection between Prague and Dresden via Ústí nad Labem. The trains on this railway are planned to run up to 320 km / hour. Thanks to that, the journey from Prague to Dresden would take about an hour. From Prague to Ústí nad Labem, passengers would arrive in just 30 minutes. The current length of the trip would thus be halved.

Based on the study, the first section of the railway line between Prague and Litoměřice will be intended only for passenger transport. This is where trains should run at 320 km / hour. Another section of the line, which leads through the Bohemian Central Mountains to Germany, will be allowed to be used by freight trains.

A railway tunnel will be created under the Bohemian Central Mountains, in which passenger trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 250 km / h. It will be about 18 km long. Another tunnel on the route will be the tunnel under the Ore Mountains, where passenger trains could reach a speed of 200 km / h. In addition to passenger trains, about 150 freight trains could also pass through the tunnel daily. It will be 26 km long and will cross the state border, the tunnel will start on the Czech side of the mountains and end on the German side. Thanks to both tunnels, the railway line in the northern valley near the Elbe, where there is currently a lot of traffic, will also be easier.

The boarding station for this express train will be Prague - Vysočany. From there, the train will continue to Lovosice. From there it will go along the Elbe river to Ústí nad Labem, Děčín and finally to Dresden. In Lovosice, the railway line crosses the Elbe and leads to Litoměřice, from there to Ústí, where it then spans the Elbe river again. At the same time, a new modern railway station will be built in Ústí nad Labem. An architectural and urban planning competition will be announced for its appearance.

The project management supplier has already been selected on the basis of cooperation with the German railway infrastructure manager - DB Netz AG. At the moment, offers for the processing of documentation for zoning decisions are being evaluated.

The high-speed railway line between Prague and Dresden will be part of the TEN-T network. Thanks to this, the Czech Republic will gain access to other Western European high-speed railway networks.
