The second phase will be to conduct a dialogue with invited suppliers to participate in the selection procedure. At this phase of the procedure, the contracting authority shall invite all suppliers who fulfill the conditions for participation in the procedure. The dialogue will continue until the company is able to identify the solutions that best suit its needs. The company then prepares a specification of the terms of the contract and then invites the supplier participating in the dialogue to submit tenders. The final step will be to select the most advantageous tender and award the contract to the supplier selected on the basis of the criteria for evaluating the tenders specified in the tender documents.

The management schedule foresees a call for tenders in the last quarter of 2021. A preliminary decision on the selection of the supplier is planned for the first quarter of next year.

''We are starting the process of one of the largest purchases in the history of PKP Intercity. Modern and fast locomotives will allow faster travel, which will have a big impact on further increasing passenger numbers. Our plans foresee that by 2030 we want to transport 74 million people a year and become the first choice for long-distance travelers. The new locomotives will be electric, which will be the next step on our path to climate neutrality," says Marek Chraniek, CEO of PKP Intercity.

New multi-system locomotives will be able to move on electricity-powered railway lines of different voltage values: 3 kV DC, 15 kV AC, 25 kV AC. As a result, trains will run on upgraded and newlines in Poland as well as on international routes. The manufacturer will have to obtain approval to operate vehicles in six countries: Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. All locomotives will be equipped with second-level ETCS.

As part of the continuation of the investment strategy, the company wants to invest PLN 19 billion for fleet modernization by 2030. The plans include investments in cars, modern locomotives, electric units, as well as push-pull double-decker vehicles. In 2030, the entire fleet of the carrier is expected to be new or upgraded, ensuring a high level of safety and comfort when traveling. PKP Intercity plans to become the first Polish passenger carrier to be climate neutral.
