PKP Intercity is purchasing 10 new EffiShunter 300 diesel shunting locomotives. The locomotives should be delivered by company CZ Loko within two years. The contract has already been signed. The value of the contract is EUR 8,9 million. The price includes a four-year warranty for these locomotives too.

“We care not only about the reconstruction of stations, the modernization of railway lines and the provision of a fleet of modern trains, but we also invest in infrastructure and rolling stock for the technical maintenance of trains,” said Krzysztof Mamiński, the President of the Management Board of PKP Group.

The first locomotive should be delivered within 18 months. The remaining locomotives should then be delivered within two years. PKP Intercity plans to move locomotives on important infrastructure lines. For example in Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Katowice or Krakow.

EffiShunter 300 locomotives have two axles and their advantage is that they are light. Their design takes into account the lowest possible operating costs. The locomotives have a CAT C13 engine, which has an output of 328 kW. It meets the strictest EU Stage operating standards. Regarding operation in Poland, the locomotives will also be equipped with the Polish national SHP train control system. The driver's cab will also be equipped with a speaker. PKP Intercity wanted to add this parameter directly.

“PKP Intercity’s investments serve the comfort of passengers, but also the efficiency of the daily service of the rolling stock, which has a huge impact on the quality of services provided. This is another step closer to the goal of a safe, comfortable and predictable railway,” said Andrzej Bittel, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The purchase of ten new locomotives is part of PKP Intercity's biggest investment plan for fleet renewal and modernization. About EUR 4,2 billion are to be invested by 2030. The investments concern not only passenger cars but also locomotives or double-decker push-pull cars.

These large-scale investments are being made in line with the EU's policy of reducing emissions and making rail transport sustainable. Following this, it can be expected that the amount of transport by rail will be increased. In 2030, the entire PKP Intercity fleet will be modernized, which will increase not only the comfort of passengers but also the safety of traffic on the railway infrastructure.
